Artist Simon Beck creates this amazing artworks on snow and sand, though first each design is carefully planned and mapped out on a computer. The temporary artwork has a lifetime until the next snow fall or until the sun melts it or the beach waves washed it away.

Zhangjiajie National Park – Avatar’s Hallelujah Mountains on Earth

The Zhangjiajie National Park is a scenic area in China comprised of precipitous stone pillars some of them as high as 1000 meters, and it all reminds us of Avatar.

Halelujah Mountains on PandoraOne of the pillars is even officially renamed to Avatar Hallelujah Mountain in honor of the film, apparently according to the director James Cameron this place was the original inspiration for the floating mountains on the fictive moon Pandora.

Beautiful nacreous clouds appear over England

Yesterday rainbow clouds were spotted over Northumberland, England. Scientifically known as polar stratospheric clouds, the colourful cloud formation appeared a bit more southern than usual.
This kind of a phenomenon is also known as nacreous clouds.

What is really cool is that this type of clouds will linger on for this week as the UK is having some really cold weather.
